Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI)
- SIDBI entered into an MOU with IIT Kharagpur on 5th December 1997 and offered a corpus fund of Rs. 20 lakhs to IIT, Kharagpur to conduct suitable training programmes for potential entrepreneurs in the small scale sector.
- IIT Kharagpur has successfully carried out suitable training programmes for the 5 years. The MOU has been renewed for a further period of 3 years.
- In addition to the interest carried from the corpus, the programmes are partly financed also by course fund fee collected from the participants, objective being to “institutionalize” the programmes.
- The training programmes are specifically aimed at developing management capabilities for small scale industry, and skill and technology up-gradation for personnel working in small scale industries.
- The training programmes are titled SIMAP (Small Industries Management Programme) of 14 weeks duration and STUP (Skill cum Technology Up-gradation Programme), generally 3-7 days duration.
