1) Cultural and Built Heritage
i) Developing a methodology for systematic inventories of Cultural and Built Heritage, from individual structure to a historic city , ii) a scientific approach for assessment and interpretation, and iii) management , assessment of community and visual impacts of developments in the context of Indian conditions. Heritage mapping , assessment of cultural heritage and environmental resources, application of GIS, are important aspects of the methodology developed and disseminated. Sponsored research projects and other consultancy projects are testing ground for concepts and methodologies developed.
2) Architecture Theory
Developing a critical understanding of contemporary trends of architecture and linking with traditional knowledge system. Participation in UNITAR ( UNESCO?s Training center ) workshop on Management of World Heritage Sites( 2015) and presentation of a paper on Historic Cultural Landscape of Visva Bharati , Santinikatan in 18th GA and Conference of ICOMOS in Florence in 2014, are additional contributions to this endeavor and this is likely to take final shape in a series of Workshops at IIT Kharagpur with collaboration from ICOMOS and INTACH.
3) Community Development and Social infrastructure Planning
Assessment of indicators of quality of life (QOL) and its dynamic relationship with social infrastructure . This is now being extended further in guiding Ph D research through developing indicators for QOL with focus on specific users / types, for example- Age Friendly Communities , High Rise Developments and Gated Communities .
4) Pedagogy in architectural design
Developing a methodology to introduce analytic and creative process of design in the foundation level, exposure to varied art forms and experimenting with forms and meanings, functions and materials , mainly through interactive design exercises . Creative workshops on ceramics and installations are part of this process involving students in various aspects of designing and creative thinking .
