The ever-growing demand of electrical energy, depleting fossil fuels and global climate change are the major motivations to use the energy more efficiently than before in tandem with the search for alternative and sustainable energy sources. The electric motor drives are the major consumers of energy and thus their efficiency improvement results in signicant reduction of energy consumption, especially in high-power applications. On the other side, in order to foster sustainable, low-emission development, many countries like India, China are establishing ambitious large-capacity solar photovoltaic power plant for their electricity supply. Modular power electronics converters are prefereable in these high power applications to enhance the overall reliability of the system. My research interest includes but are not limited to: (a) Modular Multilevel Converters, (b) Cascaded H-Bridge Converter, (c) Medium Voltage Drives, (d) Grid Integration of Large Capacity Solar Photovoltaic Plant, (e) Transformerless High Power Converters.
