My research is primarily motivated by the implication of trade liberalization policies on developing countries. One important aspect of achieving economic growth and development in this era of globalization is through exports. A relevant issue in this context thus arises is what should be the export structure of the countries participating in world trade – whether they should specialize in exporting few products or try to export variety of goods and also whether quality of export matters. Given these contemporary issues the focus of my research has been to explore the impact of trade liberalization policies on variety and quality of exports. I have attempted to provide some new evidences on the trade-growth relationship focusing on the diversification and composition of exports in my PhD thesis.
The dissertation received International Economic Research Award (IERA) by the EXIM Bank of India (2013).
Later I explored the impact of other forms of trade liberalization policies like labour movement and capital flows on product variety.
As a researcher of International Economics my future research agenda is to explore the avenues by which the developing nations can benefit from globalization.
Currently I am exploring ways to capture export quality in terms of intra industry trade indices, disentangling intra industry trade between horizontal and vertical. I am also working on issues related to regional integration, exchange rate and economic growth,
My research interest also includes development economics. I constructed a composite capability profile of households using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for the Nepal Human Development Report 2014. I am also interested in exploring the link between gender inequality and globalization.
