Research interest of Prof. R. Maiti revolves around Fluid Power and Mechanical Power Transmissions. During his industrial career, he was involved in the design of main rotor drive gear units of Helicopters and the design and development of Mechanical Handling Equipment with Hydrostatic Transmission (HST) as traction drives. Exploring design evolution of ORBIT motor- a unique low-speed high-torque (LSHT) hydrostatic unit came next. During the introduction of the proportional control hydraulic valve in the market, he worked on performance analyses of proportional control pressure valves. He has also worked on Alternating Flow Hydraulics and Toroidal Traction Drives used in CVTs. In the last 20 years he has been working with his research students on both HST units and Harmonic Drives. Recently, he has started working on the development of LSHT pump for Wind Turbines.
