Major steps have been taken by the Institute to improve the academic environment and administration of the institute. The ERP being developed by Prof. R. N. Banerjee and team has helped streamline most academic administrative procedures. The examination process, especially for PhD scholars, has also seen significant improvement with reorganization of the research section and elimination of manual work. Documents and guidelines have been made available and special courses have been designed for scholars to improve the quality of their synopsis and thesis. To improve interactions and initiate discussions research scholar days are being organized in all the departments to facilitate presentation and discussion of ongoing work. Automatic electronic communication systems have been developed to speed up the official processes involved in submission of thesis. Online systems have also been developed to indicate the status of the students' research progress. The softcopies of the theses are now available on IIT intranet and the abstracts are on the Dissertation Abstracts International (UMI, Inc.). |
