Sri Kapil Sibal, the Union Minister, Human Resource Development, Government of India, is a Master in Law from Harvard, a prominent Indian politician and former lawyer He had the distinction of declining the Indian Administrative Service and instead took up Law as his profession. Shri Sibal obtained his M.A. in History from St. Stephen's College, Delhi and Batchelor of Law from University of Delhi. Over the years, he has held several important positions in the Government of India. He is a strong advocate of using science & technology as a vehicle to impact the life of the common man and is instrumental in reforming the entire educational system from elementary to higher education. His great interest in science and technology is illustrated by the fact that Shri Sibal led the first Indian expedition to the Arctic and has been responsible for setting up an Indian Research Station “Himadri” there. In order to get a first-hand experience about the hardships being faced by the Indian scientists he traveled to the icy continent of Antarctica and stayed at the Maitri base in sub-zero temperatures. |
