International Day of Yoga was celebrated with full enthusiasm on 21st June, 2017 in IIT Kharagpur. Technology Students’ Gymkhana organized several programs on this day.
Yoga Camp in Gymkhana Premises
A Yoga Camp was held in Gymkhana premises from 6:30-8:00 a.m. Shri Jayanta Das (Yoga Expert and Trainer from Patanjali Yogapeeth, Haridwar) conducted a session on Asanas and Pranayams according to the protocol. More than 700 campus residents, faculty, staff members and their families and students of the institute actively performed all Asanas and Pranayams. Sri Jayanta Das also explained the procedures and benefits of various postures.
Lecture on “Mental Health and Yoga”
A Lecture-cum-demonstration session on “Mental Health and Yoga” was conducted by Dr. J.P. Singh, Consultant Neuroscientist, Clinical Psychologist Dietician and Health Educator
(Inventor of Inductive Neuroplasty) in S.N. Bose Auditorium from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dr. Singh explained functioning of various parts of brain, various mental disorders through examples. Then he demonstrated that through some simple Yogic techniques, one can reduce anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies. He mentioned various case studies which he encounters in his neuro-clininc everyday. The program was attended by more than 150 campus residents, faculty, staff members and their families and students of the institute and campus school children. The lecture was followed by a question and answer session.
Session on Heartfulness Meditation
A session on Sahaj Yoga was conducted in S.N. Bose Auditorium from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. by experts from Heartfulness Institute, Kharagpur branch. They explained the process of meditation. The program was well attended by about 150 campus residents, faculty, staff members and their families and students of the institute.
