- Level of Achievements
- An alumnus/alumna must have made tangible and quantifiable contribution to the Institute. The following will be considered while assessing the contributions:
- Number of years of service to the Alumni Chapters/Foundations and tangible achievements made
- Number of Alumni-related events organized by the nominee, capacity in which organized, the number of participants in each, tangible outcome in the form of donations collected, etc.
- Endowments created for Chair-Professorships and other needs of the Institute
- Teaching courses at IIT Kharagpur as Adjunct Faculty
- Joint research collaboration with the faculty of the Institute
- Mentoring of students/faculty in innovation and entrepreneurial ventures
- Recognitions received within the Alumni fraternity and their levels
- Eligibility
- An alumnus/alumna, who is an employee of IIT Kharagpur, shall NOT be eligible for the award for services provided during his/her service period
- Normally an alumnus/alumna who has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award/Life Fellow Award /D. Sc. (Honoris Causa) shall not be considered for Distinguished Service Award within a period of 5 years.
- Nomination
- Nominations in prescribed format may be submitted by past Distinguished Alumnus/Service Awardees, Life Fellows and Alumni Foundations/Associations (after internal scrutiny)
- Nominations must reach the Dean of Alumni Affairs & International Relations every year latest by 31st January
- Nominations received can be carried forward for 3 years with provisions for update by the concerned alumnus/alumna.
- Process for Selection
- Nominations shall be short listed by a Screening Committee (SC) chaired by the Dean (AA&IR) to be constituted with the approval of the Director.
- Short listed nominations shall be placed before a Standing Committee.
- The Standing Committee will normally comprise the Director as the Chairman, Deputy Director, Dean (AA&IR), Dean (F&P) as members and 2 (two) External Experts, following the guidelines of selection in such cases making final recommendations to the Board of Governors.
