Research Areas

Dr. Brajesh Kr. Dubey is Professor of Environmental Engineering and Management, Dean of Campus and Community Development, and Chair of the School of Water Resources at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP), where he also leads the Circular Engineering Research Group (CERG). He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida, USA, and his B.Tech. (Hons.) in Civil Engineering from IIT-KGP. Prior to joining IIT-KGP, he held faculty positions in the USA, Canada, and New Zealand, alongside four years of industry experience in petrochemicals and offshore engineering. With nearly two decades of postdoctoral research, Dr. Dubey’s work focuses on sustainability, circular economy, resilient infrastructure, waste, energy, health, and environment, while promoting science-based policy. His projects have been supported by organizations such as UNIDO, National Geographic Society, OECD, World Resources Institute, Alliance to End Plastic Waste, NSERC, Indo-German Science and Technology Centre, and India’s DST. Dr. Dubey has authored over 350 publications, including 190 peer-reviewed articles, 55 book chapters, and 5 edited volumes. His research has earned more than 12,500 citations, with an h-index of 57 (Google Scholar). A frequent invited speaker worldwide, he also serves on editorial boards of leading journals and professional committees in waste management, circular economy, sustainability, environmental policy, and public health. Beyond research, Dr. Dubey has created popular online courses enrolling over 125,000 learners and held and holding key administrative roles at IIT-KGP, contributing actively to education, policy, and national initiatives such as the Clean India Mission, Standards development activities with BIS, India and National Mission for Clean Ganga.
