Ship Hull and Propeller Hydrodynamics: The primary objective is the investigation of hull form and propeller designs and their performance comparison in calm water and waves. Experiments in the towing tank as well as CFD methods are used. The hydrodynamic performance of energy saving devices with respect to ship propulsion and motions in the seaway is also explored. Research interests include different propulsion forms from conventional, ducted, and tandem propellers to biomimetic propulsion forms, and performance of underwater vehicles.
Hydrofoils: The primary aim is the design and analysis of hydrofoils for marine applications. Examples include- lift, drag, and flow characteristics of hydrofoils with leading-edge modifications for different geometrical parameters. Experiments and numerical computations for static and flapping foils are performed.
Oscillating Water Columns: One of the research interests include understanding of the behaviour of oscillating water columns within vessels in different configurations. Other studies include influence of seabed configuration on the performance of OWC, mechanics of multiple OWC etc.
