We  are using gamma ray spectroscopy as a tool to explore nuclear structure and excitation modes in nuclei. The  experiments related
to nuclear  structure studies  are performed  using Indian National Gamma Array (INGA) at the accelerator  facilities like  TIFR Mumbai,
IUAC New  Delhi and VECC Kolkata.

The work undertaken is designed to address several key questions in the field, such as:

(i) What are the excitation modes in nuclei at low and high spin.
(ii) How collectivity is developed in nuclei
(iii) Particle alignments and shape coexistence
(iv) Generation of angular momentum in nuclei and  band termination
(v) Dynamics of magnetic and Anti-magnetic rotation
(vi) Octupole correlation
(vii) Chiral rotation

We are also involved in simulation of Muon Chamber (MUCH) detectors which will
be  used  to track  muons  in the forthcoming Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment  at  GSI  Germany.
The goal of the CBM  experiment  is to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter in the region of
high baryon densities. This approach offers the possibility to find signatures of partonic degrees of-freedom, and
to discover the conjectured first order deconfinement phase transition and its critical endpoint. Another important
goal is the study of in-medium modifications of hadron properties in order to shed light on the phenomenon of chiral
symmetry restoration in dense hadronic and partonic matter.
