The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, the first of its kind in the IIT system, was set up in 2006. The basis of the School is to cater to the need for lawyers with technical expertise. We see ourselves as a part of the global endeavor to integrate technology and law to build technical lawyers with expertise to deal with the legal issues at the interface of technology and law. As such, we are the only Law School with a technology focus.
The School offers three programs: LL.B (Honours in Intellectual Property Law), LL.M, and a Doctoral Program in Law. The global perspective is well-captured in our academic program, which offers a diverse set of courses. A comparative study of law from different jurisdictions is also an important feature of many of our courses.
Our faculty is a vibrant group drawn from different disciplines of law. They also teach across different IIT departments and conduct various international, governmental, and sponsored industrial research projects. Our faculty hasseveral international publications. They have won several awards and are members of as both national and international bodies. The School invites several guest faculty, adjunct faculty, and industry experts to build practical exposure for students in different areas of law.
Workshops, Clinical legal courses, and Courtroom exercises provide students with in-house training in practical aspects. A wide range of electives and breadth subjects offered provides students with greater insights into different areas. Our students have won awards at moot court competitions, seminars, and conferences.
Our alumni are in important positions in industry, law firms, practice, institutions, and academia. Many others have started new ventures. RGSOIPL believes in holistic growth. Our aim is to produce lawyers with interdisciplinary strength.
Eligibility Criteria for LL.B. & LL.M. Programs
Eligibility for LL.B.
First Class Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technology / Medicine or equivalent.
OR
First Class Master's Degree in Science or Pharmacy or equivalent.
OR
First Class MBA Degree with any of the above
If the degree awarding institute does not explicitly mention “First Class” then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale.
The CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree awarding institute provides marks in CGPA system. Then, the admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript. If the CGPA is on a different scale other than 10.0, the eligibility of the candidate will be calculated corresponding to the equivalence stated above.
*Students in the final semester are also eligible to apply; they must upload the last available marksheet for the purpose of consideration for entrance examination. Kindly note that in all such cases the admission is provisional, subject to the fulfilment of minimum eligibility criteria as applicable for the respective programme.
Eligibility for LL.M.
- First class (or equivalent) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B./B.L. (5 years) program from any recognised University.
- First Class (or equivalent) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B./B.L.(3 years) program from any recognised University along with Bachelor's Degree (not less than 3 years) in Humanities/ Science/ Commerce or equivalent.

- RGSOIPL may offer LLM specialization in Intellectual Property Law, International Law and Criminal Law. LLM aspirants will be required to give their choice (only one) for specialization in the application form. Students will be admitted in each specialization as per merit. No change of specialization is permitted after the same is allotted.

Steps to apply
- Click the link ‘REGISTER” given in the login page
- Complete the registration form with correct email address and click Generate OTP. An email with OTP will be sent to the given email id.
- Enter the OTP in the OTP field given in the registration page and click ‘Register’ button
- A success message will be displayed and login page will open if registration is successful.
- Login with the given email id, password and captcha
- In the application portal, there are sections like Personal Detail, Academic Detail, Photo and Signature, Payment, Print Application and Application Status
- Please complete each section one by one and click save and continue button given at the bottom. The sections must be completed in the given order – 1. Personal Detail, 2. Academic Detail, 3. Photo and Signature, 4. Payment, 5. Print Application and 6. Application Status.
- The document upload option in each section will appear after saving the data given in the section.
- Once the payment is successful and all necessary information/documents are given, move to the Print Application section where final submission option will be available. If any mandatory document is missing, the information will be displayed in the Print Application section.
- The status of the application will be displayed in the Application Status section.
- The registration process is one time. Once registered, the user can login any time using the user id and password as long as the application portal is open.

- What are the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the LLB and LLM programs?

Reply : No, only students with a science/technical background are eligible to apply. - Does the school offer a 5-year integrated program?
Reply : No, the LLB is a 3-year (6 semester) full-time residential course, and the LLM is a 2-year(4 semester) course. - What documents are required during the application?
Reply : The Following documents are required to fill the online application form:- EWS/OBC (Non-creamy)/SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable)

- I am in the last semester of my B.Tech/ M.Sc/MBA, am I eligible to apply in LL.B?
Reply : Yes. You are eligible to apply. Please upload your previous (most recent) semester's grade sheet, showing your percentage of marks, to the application portal. If you are selected, your admission will be subjected to meeting the required eligibility criteria. - I am currently pursuing LLB and have yet to get the final CGPA for the LLB Program. Can I apply for LLM?
Reply : If you are in final year or last semester of LLB, you may apply for LLM. Please upload your previous year/semester's grade sheet, showing your percentage of marks, to the application portal. If you are selected, your admission will be subject to meeting the required eligibility criteria. - I have not received my final degree certificate. What should I do?

Reply : The examination will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT). LL.B written paper (CBT) will be comprised of Part I- Maths Aptitude and Science Aptitude, and Part II- English, Logical Reasoning, Current Affairs, and Legal Aptitude. There will be 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 2 marks. The final selection will be based on marks obtained in CBT. There is no negative marking. - Will the entrance be online?

Reply : Yes, you can. The banks have, on several occasions in the past, financed the studies of our students. - Is the previous year entrance question paper available?
Reply : The sample question papers are available on the Downloads page of this portal. Visit the page by clicking the corresponding button - Will there be any reimbursement if I don’t want to appear for the exam?
Reply : No, once the fee is paid, there is no reimbursement even if you don’t appear for the exam. - Can I change my exam center?
Reply : If a request is made well in advance, then the matter can be considered, subject to other conditions. - Can I get any extension for applying to the LLB/LLM program?
Reply : No, the application must be freezed by the given deadline. - When will the result be declared?
Reply : Generally, the result is declared within 1 month of entrance. The exact date will be updated on the website. - Where can I see the result?
Reply : We will publish the list of selected candidates on the Institute's website. Personal letters will also be sent to selected candidates subsequently at a later date. - When will the session begin in RGSOIPL?
Reply : The semester will begin in July, 2026. - By mistake, I have filled EWS in the category section and saved it, but could not furnish the EWS certificate. Is there any provision by which I can edit the category section and rectify the mistake?

Reply : The maximum intake allowed for LLM is 100 seats. [EWS-10, ST-7, SC-15, OBC-27, UR-41 & PWD-5]. - What happens to a candidate who joins the course while the final results are awaiting and then fails to fulfil the eligibility criteria when the results come? (Eg: Final marks of qualifying exam are lower than 60%)
Reply : Admission to LLB/LLM programs will be subject to the condition that the student satisfies the eligibility criteria for the course as per the institute norms. A candidate who fails to meet the eligibility criteria will be disqualified from continuing in the course and will be removed from the rolls. - Does mere submission of the application form ensure that I will be called to appear for the entrance test?
Reply : No, you need to fulfil the required eligibility as prescribed for the respective programmes. - Will I receive a personal email in case my candidature is rejected?
Reply : No, you need to check your application portal. - Will I receive an email in case I am shortlisted for the entrance examination?

Reply : No, the application fee is non-refundable in all situations. - With respect to the application for the LLM programme, I have applied for specialisation in Criminal Law. Once selected for admission to the programme, can I opt for a specialisation in Intellectual Property Law?
Reply : No, you are selected based on the indicated area of specialisation. No change of specialisation is allowed after admission. - I want to opt for all the specialisations during the application for the LLM Programme. Can I do so?
Reply : No, you are allowed to select only one specialisation at the time of application. Repeat applications will not be entertained.

LLB
Selection will be based on the Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 2 hrs duration. All questions are MCQ type and carry 2 marks each. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

Selection will be based on the Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 2 hrs duration. CBT comprises multiple-choice questions from the Bar Council of India-approved LL.B syllabus including Alternate Dispute Resolution, International Laws, Contracts Laws, Drafting Pleading & Conveyancing, Human Rights, Intellectual Property Laws, Criminal Laws, Procedural Laws, Corporate Laws, Taxation Laws, Jurisprudence, Law of Torts, Property Laws, Administrative Law, Environmental Laws, Labour Laws, Constitutional Law, Family Law, Professional Ethics & Accounting, Information Technology Laws. There will be 120 MCQ questions of 1 mark each. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
