IIT Kharagpur is consuming almost 9 MLD of water out of which 2.3 MLD is being treated in 5 sewage treatment plants (STPs) and 2 effluent treatment plants (ETPs) in IIT Kharagpur campus. A summary of the salient features is provided below.

Out of 2.3 MLD of treated wastewater, 40% is reused for horticulture and floor cleaning purposes in some of the biggest halls of our campus.

The largest sewage treatment plant of 1.35 Million litres per day (MLD) capacity is operational and equipped with an Anoxic tank and Clarifier. Data for the plant are summarized below. The construction of a new 4.0 MLD plant has been undertaken through CPWD.
