My research interests lie in structural systems, specifically, steel bridges, steel and reinforced concrete buildings and low cost housing built with bamboo or light gauge steel. I explore the behaviour of these systems at varying scales from the full system to individual connections and their detailing. I am also interested in the propagation of load effect from an overall physical phemonenon, specifically ground acceleration, to damage to individual elements, failure initiation and progression, and load redistribution. The application of the research lies in inventing new design methods that cater to these effects in a more succinct and direct manner compared to empirical design standards, towards the goal of generally intelligent automated design rooted in structural mechanics. Other interests lie in automation of design and construction, specifically robotic construction, 3D printed structures and building information modelling.
