Dr. Narendran Thiruthy is an Assistant Professor at the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Before moving to academia, he was heading the IP Division of the National Biodiversity Authority, Government of India. He has both theoretical expertise and administrative experience in the field of IPR and Biodiversity governance. He has delivered many lectures on Intellectual Property Rights and Biodiversity Law in various forums including LSE, UN CBD events etc. He has also represented the government in many bilateral and multilateral meetings. At IIT Kharagpur, he teaches Advanced Theories of Intellectual Property and Copyright in the Global Information Age. His research areas include IP Philosophy, Protection of Cultural Property, IP procedure, IP Business models, Theories of Creativity and Biodiversity Governance. Presently he is a member of various governmental committees including CSIR-TKDL Task Force; Committee for Developing State Level Guidelines for Selection, Notification and Management of Biodiversity Heritage Sites; KSBB-Internal ABS Committee, Government of Kerala; Drafting Committee of Kerala State IPR policy, KSCSTE, Government of Kerala etc.
