The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, the first of its kind in the IIT system was set up in 2006. It is a part of the global endeavor to integrate technology and law to build lawyers with expertise to deal with the legal issues in the interface of technology and law. The School offers three programs; LL.B with specialization in IP Rights, LL.M and Doctoral Program in Law. The global perspective is captured well in the academic program in which we offer diverse set of courses. A comparative study of law from different jurisdictions is also an important feature of many of our courses. The LL.B program of the School is affiliated with Bar Council of India (Academic Years: 2013-2014 to 2019-2020 vide Communication Ref. No. BCI/D/652/2019/(LE) dated 25.07.2019 and 2020-2021 to 2022-2023 vide Communication Ref. No. BCI/D/1178/2022 (LE/App/Afflin) dated 27.08.2022 as per latest communications from Bar Council of India),Our faculty are a vibrant group drawn from different disciplines of law. They also teach across different IIT departments, conduct various international, governmental as well as sponsored industrial research projects. Our faculty have several international publications. They have won several awards and are members of national as well as international bodies. The School invites several guest faculty, adjunct faculty, industry experts to build practical exposure to students in different areas of law.Workshops, Clinical legal courses, Court room exercises provide the students in-house training in practical aspects.  A wide range of electives and breadth subjects offered provide students greater insights into different areas. Our students have won awards at moot court competitions, seminars and conferences.Our alumni are in important positions in industry, law firms, practice, institutions and academia. The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL) in IIT Kharagpur is a unique law school that was set up in 2006 with a vision of building scientists and engineers into Intellectual Property Lawyers. The School has been set up with the help of generous support of a distinguished alumnus, Mr Vinod Gupta (from the 1967 B.Tech batch). There has been an increasing relevance of law in relation to technological developments and a requirement of professionals and lawyers with understanding of the interdisciplinary areas of technology and law. The School offers a three year LL.B program with specialisation in Intellectual Property Law recognised by the Bar Council of India, the LL.M program in various disciplines of law and a doctoral program.  

Our strength is academics and research. The School imparts education and skill development in several areas of law with an interdisciplinary focus.  Faculty of the School are a unique mix of academicians from technical and legal backgrounds with practical experience in different areas of law. The School’s curriculum provides several unique courses that are relevant to the needs of the profession and industry. Guest lectures by jurists and industry experts provide the practical exposure to several areas of law. The School has grown holistically and won several accolades.
 
Our students are Science/Technology graduates from various disciplines. The school has tied up with several universities and institutes and facilitates student exchange programs. Our alumni are making their mark in the industry and in the legal fraternity.   Read less
