I study light-matter interactions in materials at fast (femtosecond) timescales and small (nanometre) length scales to understand processes in materials including energy transfer, charge-lattice and spin-lattice interactions.

The fundamental problem that we want to answer is: When light energy gets absorbed by a material, it converts into quanta in the form of free charges, spin and lattice vibrations. What happens next? How to control their quantum dynamics and interactions, so that they eventually translate into more efficient optoelectronic and photonic devices including solar cells, light emitters and spin memory devices?

At ATDC, I plan to establish an ultrafast optical spectroscopy lab to investigate light-matter interactions in a broad range of semiconductor and quantum materials. More details coming soon.
