Research Areas

  • Wind Power Generation
  • Switched Mode Power Converters
  • Power Converters for DC micro grid
  • Machine Drives
My areas of research are

                 1. Wind power Generation specially for stand alone mode of operation. The research goal is to optimize design and control of such systems in order to maximize 'availability' and minimize cost of electricity generation. To achieve this goal different designs of power electronic interfaces (B2B converters, Matrix converter etc.) have been used with different types of electrical machines (i.e, SCIG, DFIG, PMSG etc). Performance of Wind -Diesel hybrid systems have also been investigated.

2. Switched mode power supplies for microprocessors. The objective is to propose and verify new designs of low output voltage (1V and less) and high output current (50-100A) on board regulated DC power supply suitable for powering the cores of present and future generation desktop and laptop computer processors. Several designs working from 12V input voltage have been proposed and at present, topologies suitable for higher input voltage (48 V and above)  operation are being investigated.

3. Multiport DC-DC converters for distributed generation systems. The objective here is to propose the topology and control strategy for scalable DC-DC converters which can interconnect several DC power sources, loads and storage elements in a single unit and allow bidirectional power flow among them. This design is expected to improve power density and efficiency of DC-DC electrical power conversion required in DC microgrids and 'grid to vehicle' systems.
